Mission Statement

The mission of the Carl Stuart Middle School Media Center is to provide a facility that functions as the information center of the school, as a focus for integrated, interdisciplinary, intergrade and school wide activities, and to promote a climate that encourages students and teachers to take full advantage of the center and its resources.

History Note: Carl Stuart Middle School Media Center was the first automated school library in Arkansas.  This was accomplished through the efforts of past librarian Mrs. Sherry Stone.  Staff: The Carl Stuart Media Center is staffed with one full time librarian, Crystal Rehm. This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Hours: The hours of operation are 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Check out: Students may check out 3 books at a time if they so choose; the check out period is three weeks, after which the book will be counted as late.  A late fee (fine) of .10 per book, per day is charged for every day the material is late, with a maximum fine of $3.00.  Students receive late notices every three weeks through their English class. Books may be returned any time during the day. The lost library book fee varies per book.  If a student has a late book, a late fee or a lost book, check out privileges are suspended until the student brings the book back and pays the late fee, or pays for a lost book.

Library Rules: All students are expected to observe classroom rules and use classroom manners when visiting the center.  All students are treated equal in the Carl Stuart Middle School Media Center.

Computer Usage Rules:

1. Students from study hall can not use the computers unless they have a special LMC pass (orange) from a classroom teacher stating the student’s need.  Students must have an internet permission slip on file in that teacher’s classroom and/or on file in the library before a computer pass can be issued.  These computer passes will be provided by the Media Center to the teachers upon request.

2. All Students must show the librarians their pass and sign in before using a computer for any reason.

3. Mondays and Tuesdays are reserved for non-English teachers.  Teachers who bring their classes to use the computers for research must supervise the students carefully and consistently.  The students should not be in any of the computer programs except a word processing program, the internet, or as directed by their teacher.

4. Students should not be creating or destroying the programs or icons, playing games, changing the settings, making adjustments in the functions of the computer or its attachments, or in any program not designated as appropriate by the teacher or media specialist.

5. Chairs should not be moved to or from the computer area unless permission is granted by the teacher.

6. After use, each computer should be returned to the main menu screen, unless directed by the teacher to leave it in the program being used.  Keyboard and mouse pulled to the edge of table.

7. Violation of any of these rules will result in the student not being able to use the computers in the Media Center for an extended period of time.  This will be determined by Mrs. Rehm.
